Journalism award seeks entries [South Africa]

South African journalists who cover stories on responsible drinking including issues related to alcohol abuse and its consequences can apply for an award.

The Responsible Drinking Media Awards seeks entries published in South African print, broadcast or online media outlets between May 2011-April 2012.

The awards aim to encourage journalists to use their coverage to proactively gain traction with their readers and shape perceptions and behavior around drunk driving, as well as other alcohol abuse-related issues such as under-age drinking, fetal alcohol syndrome (FAS) and binge drinking.

The contest features seven categories - journalist of the year, magazine, newspaper, broadcast, online, blog and community - each with a ZAR10,000 prize (about US$1,269).

The deadline is April 30.
